Dantes Inferno Eurogamer Impressions

Dantes Inferno was fully playable on the Playstation 3 at Eurogamer this year. We managed to get hands on with the entire demo available on the show floor.

It's clear that Dantes Inferno borrows a large portion of elements from the best - God of War. This however is not necessarily a bad thing. As soon as the controller is in your hands you will instantly feel at home if you've played the previously mentioned game. Square is standard attack, Triangle heavy attack and X is Jump.

The game throws masses of enemies at you to brutally destroy in any way you see fit. Again much like God of War after bashing in the larger enemies enough a button prompt will appear above their head, to trigger a violent finishing move quick-time event. The environments themselves give you a fantastic feeling of scale - such as riding on a large demon airship, on which you must ride a pretty hefty beast and force it to rip the head off of the demon contraption you are currently on. The boss battles are again relatively epic in scale. You must avoid attacks and trigger events whenever possible.

Graphically the game looks reasonably pretty. It appeared to run at a solid 60fps however it was hard to tell for sure. Although not up to the visual standards of GoW3 the game certainly held its own. Worried about there not being enough visceral action? Fear not for the game was close to the level of gore and brutality seen in GoW3.

Overall I enjoyed my time with Dantes Inferno more than expected. Although the game is extremely similar to God of War, it should serve as a solid third person action adventure, to help ease the wait for March.
