Xbox 360 USB Storage Confirmed

E-mail
Major Nelson has confirmed that the previously rumoured Xbox 360 USB storage feature does exist, and will be heading our way on April 6th via a System Update. This feature allows for the use of USB storage devices to extend their 360's storage capacity. Up to two 16gb devices can be  plugged in at one time, allowing for an extra 32gb of storage, and will allow users to store profiles, games saves, demos and even full games. The feature is aimed at flash devices, however will work with external hard-drives also; although Major Nelson recommends using a flash device for the best experience.

Thats one of the thing Microsoft fuked us all over with. The cost of a new HDD etc from them. I bought a 350gb Top of the range HDD for my PS3, cost me £35 new.
The 360 HDD is so so expensive. This external storage is their way to redeem them self's as they have had years of stick for it. So good move really from them :-)

The hard drives in Xbox's are laptop hard drives running at normal hard drive rates - these are as expensive as Microsoft sell them for :P
It's £60 for a 250gb hard drive - that's completely fair Guv'!
I paid £40 recently for 160gb!

No, it's not, it's called extortion. M$ could have made the 360 compatible with external USB drives from the off like Sony did with the PS3, but no. Being the money grabbing twats that they are, they thought 'Let's make it so they HAVE to buy an official Xbox 360 HDD'.

It's pathetic.

So, you paid £30 for 160GB, when If they used a universal laptop drive, after checking just now, for £35 can now get 500GB 2.5" Hard Drive SATAII 5400rpm 8MB Cache - compatible with a PS3.

Yea I know back in the day, games required an Install on PS3, hence the need for more storage. But now that is optional if any at all.
And since Microsoft did the whole Install to HDD option you would have thought they would let us use other HDD's somehow,...but no. They still want all our dam money.

Tbh though, if I was in their position I'd do the same. If you can charge for it then why not. Doesn't make it right or 'good', but from a business point of view it makes total sense when they're making a loss on the console itself as Accessories count for a huge chunk of the profit.

Either way, this is a good step :-) Will definitely look for a cheapish flash drive to whack in some extra storage. Also it means we can take saves/profiles to a mates house much much easier now :-)

Yeah, but Microsofts hard-drives are proprietary, and Sony's aren't. Proprietary costs a lot more, generally.

There's a difference between good buisness sense and taking your consumers for a ride, you think the top brass at MS give a shit about the little guy? The likes of you, me and every other dumbarse gamer who's willing to buy this hardware because we want to play games? Simple answer is no, they wouldn't have gotten away with making a P.O.S like the 360 15 years ago, I had my Playstation 1 for 8 years! 8 Yeats, my NES for 17, Not once had a problem with the PS3 but the 360 is poorly designed.
