We got in touch with Funcom the developers of Age of Conan, and the fantastic Dreamfall series, and asked them for an interview. Erling Ellingsen (Director of Communications) was kind enough to answer a few of our questions despite his busy schedule. Hit Read More to see the full interview now!
1) How many 'episodes' can we expect to see for Dreamfall Chapters & do you have any timeframe for it's release?
Actually, we have put the development of the Dreamfall Chapters on indefinite hold. We might pick them up again, but there are no plans for that as of now.
2) Can we expect to see further expansion packs for Age of Conan down the line?
Certainly. We're working on Rise of the Godslayer right now, which is coming along very well. It's very exciting for us to be taking Age of Conan into the orient, and we're looking forward to giving our players a completely new Conan experience. Will there be more expansions after Rise of the Godslayer? Quite possibly, but it's too early to start talking about what's next before we get this one out the door! One thing is for sure, we are completely committed to supporting Age of Conan for a long time to come. Our other MMO, Anarchy Online, has been going strong for eight years now and we've put out several expansions and so-called "booster packs".
3) Do you have any tidbits of information regarding the recently announced Age of Conan Expansion, which hasn't already been discussed at Gamescon in Germany?
That's quite a tricky question, actually, seeing we released quite a bit of information at GamesCom. I think one of the things not too many people know about, even though we have mentioned it, is that there will be two "secret" factions in the expansion when it launches. The faction system is a central new part of gameplay and the land of Khitai will have many of them, but two factions will actually be relatively "hidden" until the player discovers them. I'd tell you more, but then I'd have to kill you.
4) Many of our readers are extremely interested to know if you have any more information regarding the Xbox 360 version of Age of Conan?
We are indeed still working on it. After launching Age of Conan for the PC our priorities shifted as we had to focus more resources on sorting out the issues with that game, and as such it did cause some delays for us on the Xbox 360 version. But rest assured there is still a team working on this, even though we have no release date set yet. We still feel Age of Conan is a very viable MMO for the Xbox 360 platform and all of us would love to see it realized. We will be pushing to make that happen, and we will let you know how it develops.
5) What new gameplay elements will The Secret World bring to the crowded MMO genre?
One of the most exciting things for me is the real world modern-day setting - something we haven't really seen in MMOs before. Being able to explore real world cities like New York, London and Seoul, and going adventuring through places like Egypt and New England makes for some exciting gaming experiences. Personally I'm not a very level-oriented gamer either, even though I love role-playing games, and I'm thrilled with the fact that we're now making a completely class-less and level-less MMO! I think that's going to challenge the way you approach and play an MMO, and I'm looking forward to not having to worry too much about leveling up and rather focus on progression that is more meaningful to me.
6) With a common trend in MMO's at the moment being to finish development on the console version after the PC release - can we expect to see The Secret World hitting store shelves on the 360 at the same time as PC?
That's way too early to tell at the moment, unfortunately. We hope to be able to make some announcements regarding the console version of the game soon.
Thanks a lot for taking the time out to answer our questions Erling, we really do appreciate it!
