We got in touch with Erik Svedäng, the developer of the hit IGF Award Winning Blueberry Garden, who agreed to do an interview with us here at Game-Pad! Major Kudos for this Erik :) Check it out by hitting READ MORE.
1) With Blueberry Garden out to the public do you have plans to expand on the game with DLC/Support?'
At the very least I will try to fix the bugs and add some features that people are asking for, like for example gamepad support. I will probably not expand the game with more levels but I'm already redesigning the world to make it a better experience.
2) How did you actually manage to break into the industry – do you feel the IGF awards played a big part in this?
Yeah, of course. There were quite a big interest in the game before but IGF made everything much easier, for sure. I really hope the competition will continue to help people in the same way in the future.
3) How do you feel about your decision to remain as an small indie developer rather than expand?
It's not really a decision as much as a necessity. I want to create things that matters to me and right now this is the best solution for me to do that. I will probably collaborate more with other people on my upcoming games though.
4) Would you ever consider expanding or joining with a larger publisher?
Yeah probably, if I could still do sort of whatever I want.
5) How do you feel about both the community’s response and the critical response to Blueberry Garden so far?'
It's been really, really great! I'm so happy. Of course there are bugs (will fix them, promise) but the overall response has been fantastic. People seem to get a lot out of it and the reviews are positive too, yay!
6) Are you happy with how Blueberry Garden turned out in the end?
Ya... but obviously it's not like I imagined it at all, creative work usually is like that. I tried to explore a number of ideas that I had and at the same time creating something beautiful. It's not like I'm done experimenting though, this is just a first tiny step.
7) Is there anything you wished you could have put into the game but didn’t have the time/resources to do so?
Well, of course there are tons of things I could do in terms of puzzles, creatures, plants, you name it. On the other hand I think the current short and sweet experience is a strength when it comes to the storytelling part. All the unused ideas will come in handy in future games instead.
8) How has your experience been so far working with Valve/Steam to distribute the game?
Very good. They don't talk a lot of crap, which is nice. They are also very supportive and helpful which is good for me since it's the first time I release a game, charging money for it.
9) How do you feel about the success of indie development over the past couple of years?
Very nice, it's so awesome to know there's a bunch of super talented and dedicated people out there focusing their brains on moving this art form forward. The success is well deserved I think!
10) What can we expect to see for the future of Erik Svedäng?
I'm thinking of moving into the fashion industry.
