The internet is changing after the recent Megaupload case.
Megaupload - Closed.
FileServe - Closing does not sell premium.
FileJungle - Deleting files. Locked in the U.S.
UploadStation - Locked in the U.S.
FileSonic - The news is arbitrary (under FBI investigation).
VideoBB - Closed! would disappear soon.
Uploaded - Banned U.S. and the FBI went after the owners who are gone.
FilePost - Deleting all material (so will leave executables, pdfs, txts)
Videoz - closed and locked in the countries affiliated with the USA.
4shared - Deleting files with copyright and waits in line at the FBI.
MediaFire - Called to testify in the next 90 days and it will open doors pro FBI
Org torrent - could vanish with everything within 30 days "he is under criminal investigation"
Network Share mIRC - awaiting the decision of the case to continue or terminate Torrent everything.
Koshiki - operating 100% Japan will not join the SOPA / PIPA.
Shienko Box - 100% working china / korea will not join the SOPA / PIPA
ShareX BR - group UOL / BOL / iG say they will join the SOPA / PIPA

How bad will this effect us in the UK if it passes? I know its a US thing but i presume it will have a knock-on effect?

This isn't SOPA, it's just the FBI investigating and sites getting scared after the bringing down of Megaupload. So it depends if the FBI find them guilty of illegal activity. All we can do is wait and see. Sadly anything major like SOPA would have a huge knock on effect of the UK simply because a massive amount of sites are US based. I've noticed Rapidshare and Depositfiles seem to be working, however I can't confirm it yet but I've got a suspicion they've suddenly got much stricter with deleting illegal files off their servers.

That's a good question, I don't actually believe any sites like that are UK based. At least none that I've come across. I could be wrong though!

I would have thought most servers would just move to a country thats not under any kind of law governing internet use.

Well they were hosting copyrighted material which is against the law and they knew about it, porbs one of the reasons they were getting so much traffic, services like skydrive will still be around for filehosting though
